The problem we set out to solve

Every Kiwi who's tried to sell an old, damaged, or unwanted car knows the routine. You Google "cash for cars near me." You get back ten websites that all look identical, all promise the best price. You ring three of them. Three different prices. One quotes you $400 over the phone, then knocks it down to $200 when they actually show up. Another promises to come at 10am and arrives at 4pm.

It's a mess. And it's a mess because the wreckers know you're not going to ring twenty of them. They know whoever you ring first has a huge advantage, regardless of whether they're offering a fair price.

We wanted to flip the script.

What we built instead

Compare Cash For Cars works the way the market should work. You submit your car details once. Multiple verified wreckers see it at the same time. They have to compete for your car — which means they have to offer their best price.

You see every offer side-by-side. You pick the winner. Free pickup, cash on the spot, no haggling, no lowballing.

It's not complicated. It's just how every other type of marketplace already works — and there's no reason cars should be any different.

Why we're different

There are a handful of similar services in NZ. Here's what makes us different:

• True comparison. Most "compare" services just forward your details to one or two preferred dealers. We send your listing to verified wreckers, and you see all offers in one place.
• Verified wreckers only. Every dealer on our network is vetted: registered NZ business, insurance, references, NZTA compliance. No fly-by-night operators.
• Locked-in offers. The price the wrecker submits is the price you get paid. No on-the-day "actually it's worth less than we thought" surprises.
• Public ratings. Every seller rates the wrecker after the transaction. Bad actors get filtered out fast.
• Nationwide. Auckland to Invercargill, we have coverage in every major NZ region.

How we make money

We're not pretending to be a charity. We make money from the wrecker side of the marketplace — they pay us a monthly fee and a small per-lead fee for the verified leads they receive.

Sellers pay nothing. Always. We made this design choice on purpose: if sellers paid us, we'd have a conflict of interest about which offers to surface. By only being paid by wreckers, we have a single job — get sellers the best possible price, so they tell their friends about us.

Where we're going

Compare Cash For Cars is launching with cars and small vehicles. We're already planning expansions:

• Motorcycles and scooters
• Vans, utes, and small trucks
• Heavy machinery
• Marine vehicles (boats, jet skis)
